What is HHC?

The cannabinoid hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is one of the more exotic cannabinoids. Hexahydrocannabinol, also known as 11-Nor-9β-hydroxyhexahydrocannabinol in the scientific community, is one of the cannabinoids found naturally in industrial hemp. HHC is a hydrogenated form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in seeds and pollen, which makes HHC legal under the 2018 Farm Bill.

A chemist named Roger Adams made the first discovery of HHC in the 1940s, and he is also credited with discovering CBD (cannabidiol). In 2020, HHC was isolated from the plant for the first time by the de Las Heras Group while also discovering 16 additional previously unknown cannabinoids. Today, we know HHC has a very strong binding affinity for both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the body, as it attaches to both receptors at the same time.
